Before the 2023–24 NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers were thought to be among the top teams in the league.

Despite making a number of roster changes in the offseason, the Lakers’ improvements were not greatly aided.

After all, the Lakers are still the 10th seed in the Western Conference with a 21-21 record, having played more than half of the games thus far this season.

It’s therefore not shocking that the Lakers are leaning toward choosing to acquire a new player prior to the trade deadline of February 8.

Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports that the Lakers and the Atlanta Hawks are already deep in negotiations regarding a trade in order to acquire Dejounte Murray.

The Lakers are prepared to add D’Angelo Russell, Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2029 First-Round draft pick, and additional draft compensation, per the tweet that is attached above.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the dynamic duo that leads the Lakers, have been playing exceptionally well this season.

Conversely, Dejounte Murray is leading the Atlanta Hawks in scoring, rebounds, and assists per game with an average of 21.0.

The Hawks could begin their rebuilding process by moving Murray away, given their recent struggles in winning games.

With a 17-23 record so far this season, the Hawks are currently the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference.
