The New York Mets might already be the front-runners to sign Juan Soto, who is eligible for free agency following the 2024 season, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Even though the current offseason isn’t officially ended, it seems like it’s never too early to start planning for the next one.
The New York Mets might already be the front-runners to sign free agent Juan Soto, who is eligible to sign elsewhere after the 2024 season, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
When outfielder Juan Soto becomes a free agent in the winter of next year, the Mets are not only anticipated to be among the favourites, but also to make a serious run at him.
This summer, Soto was just involved in a huge transaction that sent him from the San Diego Padres to the New York Yankees. The Yankees can’t be written off when it comes to making an offer, even though they will surely wait to see how he handles playing in New York before doing so.
But it doesn’t seem plausible that Soto would accept any deal before going on the market, considering that he is a client of Scott Boras and is thus close to free agency.
At the age of 25, Soto has already proven himself to be one of the greatest hitters in baseball history.
He has already won batting titles, been a three-time All-Star, and been a four-time Silver Slugger. In addition, he is a career and assisted the Washington Nationals in winning the 2019 World Series.batter with a.421 on-base percentage, batting 284.
Only a select few teams will be able to pay Soto’s expected free agency contract of over $500 million. They would appear to be out because the Los Angeles Dodgers have already committed to Mookie Betts, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Shohei Ohtani. As Nightengale points out, you can’t write off the Yankees, Red Sox, or the Mets.
