SKY NEWS: The New York Mets successfully signed the $18.7 million free agent ahead of the 2024 trade deadline.

The disgruntled fan base of the New York Mets will be let down by a recent report that the team plans to upgrade their roster even more this winter.

The 2023 Mets season was a complete bust. Many of the team’s star players had poor seasons or were limited by injuries after the team made it to the playoffs and won 101 games the year before. As a result, the team unexpectedly turned sellers at the trade deadline and moved their two best players, Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer.

The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros farm systems sent Verlander and Scherzer to the organization in exchange for elite prospects. They did, however, also agree to assume the majority of the remaining salary on the contracts of the aging pitchers. The fact that the team still has a sizable payroll for 2024 despite not having the costly pair of pitchers appears to have played a major role in their offseason bargain hunting.

The Mets signed pitchers Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, and Adrian Houser in addition to bench players Harrison Bader and Joey Wendle. These were all economical moves that didn’t blow Mets fans away, with the exception of making a run at Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto. However, they did fill in the gaps they had before the
