The Costa Rican has missed the last several weeks of action due to a hamstring ailment that he has been treating.
Brandon Aguilera, on loan from Nottingham Forest, has returned to his parent club to start the recovery process for his hamstring injury, as revealed by Bristol Rovers boss Matt Taylor.
The Costa Rican international signed with Rovers on January’s deadline day, but an injury soon caused him to be added to the team’s list of absences. According to Taylor, Brandon “probably had the best debut known.” However, a few games later, he sustains a hamstring strain. He will return to us within the next several weeks, he said, having returned to Nottingham Forest.
As Aguilera, 20, has only made three appearances for the team thus far, gasheads will be eager to see him back on the grass as soon as possible. “He will do his first couple of weeks of rehab there, but he showed in a short space of time what a good addition he will be to this football club,” Taylor added. “Certainly for the remainder of this season and the quicker we get him back the better.”
Aguilera wasn’t the only loanee to sign on deadline day last month; Harry Vaughn, 19, signed from Hull City, and Elkan Baggott, an Indonesian international, arrived from Championship team Ipswich Town. Taylor, their new manager, offered his evaluation on their debuts while wearing a Rovers jersey. “It’s been a testing time for Elkan and Harry in terms of their first exposure back to lower league football,” Taylor added. “Having come from the Championship level and coming from a tournament elsewhere, it’s been a little bit of a shock to the system in terms of their performances.”
Since joining, the two have only started four games together, so the Gasheads are hoping for more from the two loanees before they return to their respective parent clubs in the summer. “They showed really good signs, they had their best games last game, both in the second-half at Northampton, so hopefully they can take that on and take that forward to what’s next,” said Taylor.
This weekend, when Carlisle United plays at Memorial Stadium, Baggott and Vaughn will both believe they have a chance to start. The visitors on Saturday are battling for their survival at the basement of League One. With 13 games remaining, the Pirates are now 13 points outside of the playoffs in 12th place in the division. In order to give the Gas a chance to push for promotion late in the season, Taylor will be hopeful that his team can win the three points.
