The owner of the Los Angeles Lakers strongly criticized Darvin Ham and declared the arrival of a new head coach.

The Los Angeles Lakers have lost their last four games in a row due to a rough patch. Even though there are some issues with their roster, head coach Darvin Ham has been the target of criticism from many supporters on social media.

Many of those fans have been demanding that Ham be fired, and if they get their way, Phil Handy is predicted to take Ham’s place by one oddsmaker.

Since the 2019–20 season, when Frank Vogel was the Lakers’ head coach, Handy has served as an assistant coach.

As an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers during LeBron James’ second stint there prior to moving to Southern California, Handy also has a deep understanding of the player.

The Lakers fired Vogel at the conclusion of the disastrous 2021–22 season, and Ham was hired. They had the option of hiring someone else with plenty of experience, but Ham had never held the position of head coach before.

Ham, who had served as an assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks and helped the team win an NBA championship in 2020–21, was chosen as a new voice instead.

Ham began to get recognition after the Lakers advanced to the Western Conference Finals in the previous season after the trade of Russell Westbrook. There was a sense that maybe he had matured as a head coach, and Los Angeles’s prospects were bright going into this campaign.

This year, the team had a 3-5 start, but he later promoted Cam Reddish, a former lottery pick, to the starting lineup and benched Austin Reaves. The team gained immediate traction and used it to their advantage to easily win the In-Season Tournament and win the NBA Cup.

The Lakers have struggled with injuries over the past two months, but they are currently nearly back to full strength. When January rolls around, their schedule will become much more manageable, and supporters will be even more vocal in their demands that Ham be fired.
