Tyler Herro to be traded by the Heat for a $160 million wing: “Comes to Reason
Although unlikely, Jared Weiss of The Athletic believes a Jerami Grant-Tyler Herro trade is still feasible. Big or small, Weiss thinks Miami’s best course of action before the trade deadline is reached would be to find a wing.
Weiss wrote on January 24 that “if Miami makes a move, it seems like a big wing is the main priority.”
“Jerami Grant is the only one who makes sense; he can fill that defensive side need and has a contract comparable to Herro’s, which allows him to contribute comparable scoring and shooting efficiency. For a Portland team that is going through a major rebuild, having a jam of young guards they can develop instead of a wing in his prime seems like the right decision. However, Herro still has a lot of room to develop, so it doesn’t seem worth sacrificing that potential.
It is very unlikely that Herro would be traded for Grant. Grant and Herro signed comparable contracts with the Blazers in the summer of 2023: Grant signed a five-year, $160 million contract worth an average of $32 million per season, while Herro signed a four-year, $120 million extension worth $30 million per season in the fall of 2022.
That being said, Grant would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to the Heat team. Grant, who is renowned for his clutch plays and excellent defense, would undoubtedly outperform Herro on defense.
Grant, who started 43 games for the Portland Trail Blazers this season, is averaging 21.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in more than 33 minutes per game, which is quite similar to his offensive output. The 6-foot-7 wing is making 40.3% of his 3-pointers and 46.1% of his field goals.
