Back before the start of the NBA season, a Western Conference assistant coach was talking about the Los Angeles Lakers roster. While much of what the Lakers had were players who were with the team after last year’s trade deadline and into the team’s playoff run, the one guy who stood out was new: guard Gabe Vincent.
This summer, Vincent decided to sign a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lakers, leaving the Miami Heat—the team that helped shape him—in his prime. Naturally, Vincent has experience in front of a large crowd. He participated in the NBA Finals with the Heat in the previous season, having advanced to Game 7 of the East Finals the year before.
However, he has emerged as a different kind of wild card during the season’s first two months. Four games into the season, Vincent suffered a knee injury that has kept him out of action.
