Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United-linked Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, according to David Ornstein.
The Reds have been strongly linked with Gravenberch since January with their interest accelerating in recent weeks following the sales of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp had made Southampton’s Romeo Lavia and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo his top midfield targets but both players ended up going to Chelsea.
This saw the German manager turn to Japanese international Wataru Endo with one more midfielder expected to join before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Gravenberch has been linked with Liverpool more than any other midfield player and it now looks like a deal is close to being finalised.
Writing for The Athletic, transfer expert Ornstein has claimed the Premier League club and Bayern have ‘reached an agreement’ over a €40million (£34million) deal for the Dutch international.
Ornstein says Gravenberch is set to fly to Liverpool on Thursday evening and will have his medical on Friday.
The 21-year-old will pen a ‘long-term contract’ at Anfield and will likely be Klopp’s final signing of the summer.
While Endo is a defensive-minded midfielder, the Reds have failed to replace Fabinho as Gravenberch is a player who excels on the ball, not off it.
Gravenberch only joined Bayern from Ajax last summer but has failed to nail down a starting spot in Munich.
He only started three Bundesliga matches in 2022/23 and has only made one appearance so far this season, coming off the bench against Augsburg last Sunday.
Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the transfer, adding that Liverpool will pay “€40m plus €5m in add-ons”.
He wrote on Twitter: “Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool, here we go! €40m plus €5m in add-ons, 5 year deal, he will fly to Liverpool this evening.
“Agreement in place and medical tests booked. Deal was negotiated by Jose Fortes Rodrigues from Raiola.”
German journalist Florian Plettenberg adds that Klopp was “crucial” in landing Gravenberch after “speaking” to the player about his “project” at Anfield.
The 21-year-old has also been linked with Manchester United. He played for Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax.
Liverpool have also completed the signings of midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister for a combined £100m.
The big story at Anfield on transfer deadline day is now expected to be about Mohamed Salah
