Liverpool are next up against Wolves in the Premier League with Jurgen Klopp facing some selection posers

Liverpool maintained their early-season momentum with an impressive win against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s opener was added to by a Matty Cash own goal and Mohamed Salah’s second-half strike as the Reds earned a comfortable 3-0 victory at Anfield.

Liverpool will now aim to continue their good start to the campaign when they resume after the international break at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday week.

And here we look ahead to the changes Jurgen Klopp could make when his team are next in action.

Alexander-Arnold wait

Who starts are centre-back at Molineux will offer the greatest amount of intrigue for Liverpool supporters, as well as perhaps the biggest headache for Klopp.

Much will depend on the fitness of Ibrahima Konate, who has missed the last two games with a muscle problem, and whether Virgil van Dijk is available as he waits to discover if the one-match ban he has already served will be extended after being charged by the FA for his reaction to his red card at Newcastle United last month.

Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are again on standby to deputise, with 20-year-old Jarell Quansah – who has now come off the bench twice – the next in line.

The situation, though, could be complicated further if Trent Alexander-Arnold is ruled out having limped off against Aston Villa with a hamstring complaint, with Gomez the chief right-back cover given young Conor Bradley is sidelined.

There are no such issues at left-back, where Andy Robertson remains ahead of Kostas Tsimikas. And Alisson Becker is first choice between the sticks with Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian the deputies.

Middle options

As ever, availability will depend on who emerges unscathed from the international break. But that won’t be a concern for Ryan Gravenberch, who has upset Holland by removing himself from their current under-21 squad to concentrate on integrating himself at Liverpool.

And what role the Dutchman has at Wolves will be another key call for Klopp, who now has a variety of options at his disposal.

Alexis Mac Allister has started three of the four games so far in the number six role, with fellow summer signing Wataru Endo another option and 18-year-old Stefan Bajcetic patiently awaiting his first minutes after returning from injury.

To the right of the midfield trio, Dominik Szoboszlai has become one of the first names on the teamsheet although Harvey Elliott continues to impress during his second-half cameos. Curtis Jones filled the role on the left on Sunday having returned to full fitness.

However, Thiago Alcantara has suffered an injury setback in training while Bobby Clark and James McConnell have returned to Academy duty with the under-21s.
