Manchester City have been drawn to face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup third round. The Blues will travel to St James’ Park and the fixture will take place in the week commencing September 25.
The Blues’ iron grip on the trophy has loosened over the last two years after Liverpool claimed it in 2022 and neighbours Manchester United won this year’s final. City had won six of the last eight League Cups beforehand.
Pep Guardiola must be eager to finally get his hands back on the trophy, especially as last year’s shock quarter-final exit to relegated Southampton cost them the chance of winning an unprecedented quadruple.

Guardiola can also become the most successful manager in League Cup history if he guides City to glory.
Currently, the Catalan boss is tied with Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Brian Clough on four wins but will surpass them with a fifth.
