Daniel Farke has given an update on his Leeds United squad ahead of Saturday’s trip to Southampton during Thursday’s press conference – as per the club’s YouTube – and he says Patrick Bamford is back.
Leeds come into the game after four consecutive clean sheets, while Southampton have lost four in a row, including a 5-0 loss to Sunderland. Leeds have only lost one of their eight Championship games.
On Saturday, Joel Piroe, Sam Byram and Jaidon Anthony got the goals as Leeds cruised past Watford at Elland Road. But, the Whites were still without a number of senior players – despite the dominating win.
Joe Rodon is expected to return after suspension, following a red card against Hull City. Patrick Bamford was also due to be in the mix, after returning to training last week. Stuart Dallas is also back in training.
Farke gave an update, during Thursday’s press conference. He says that Bamford is now available, but he is not 100%, lacking rhythm. Willy Gnonto, Junior Firpo and Djed Spence remain on the sidelines.
Patrick Bamford is not perfect rhythm, he’s not 100% but he is one week ahead after training. He is a topic for the squad. Much improved, he is a topic to trave,” Farke said, when asked about Bamford.
“Willy will be out until the international break, Firpo the same. Gnonto had surgery, successful. On his way back to rehab. Djed Spence will also be missing until after the international break. No new injuries.”

Having Bamford back is huge. The £10m signing, as Farke continues to reiterate, scored plenty of goals at this level in the past. But, the England international will surely struggle to break his way into the side.
Georginio Rutter is without doubt, first choice at the moment – while Joel Piroe is combining well as the club’s no.10. So, that relationship will continue on Saturday, but Bamford might come off the bench.
