Manchester City will be without star Bernardo Silva for Nottingham Forest’s visit to the Etihad this weekend.
City came back to defeat Crvena Zvezda 3-1 in the Champions League after being 1-0 down at the break on Tuesday evening. Bernardo was substituted off shortly before the visitors’ opener on the stroke of half-time.
But there had been no indication of a knock to the Portuguese as he took a seat on the bench rather than head down the tunnel for treatment.
Pep Guardiola later confirmed the blow. “I didn’t speak with the doctors but apparently for the next games he will not be able to play,” he said.
Silva now joins four other players on an injury list that includes Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Mateo Kovacic. “We are in trouble,” Guardiola added.
“When we have five important players – really, really important players – injured, to sustain that for a long time will be difficult. But it is what it is.
We cannot have the salaries and budgets for transfers to have 55 players. It would be chaos for the clubs and they would be bankrupt. Sometimes it happens.”
Forest will take on the league leaders in Manchester on Saturday (3pm).
