Swap Deal : Liverpool agreed deal to sign 23-year-old game changer in offer to Darwin Nunez

Liverpool wanted to sign Joao Felix during the summer transfer window and were willing to offer Atletico Madrid Darwin Nunez.

Liverpool were interested in Joao Felix

Mundo Deportivo claims that Liverpool were keen on Joao Felix and were open to exchanging Darwin Nunez for him.

However, the same outlet states that the forward only wanted to join Barcelona, who managed to sign him in the end.

Felix spent the second half of last season out on loan at Liverpool’s rivals Chelsea but did not do enough to convince the Blues to arrange a permanent deal.

Having secured a move to Barcelona, though, you suspect that the Portugal international will not be too disappointed about not rejoining Chelsea, who have not made a great start to the season.

Liverpool did not need Joao Felix

Felix is obviously a player with a lot of quality, with Atletico striker Alvaro Morata describing the 23-year-old as an attacker who has a “special talent”.

However, he probably did not need to be a priority for Jurgen Klopp, especially at the cost of Nunez, who looked extremely sharp in his side’s 2-1 comeback win against Newcastle United at the end of last month.

It was the Uruguayan who inspired a 10-man Liverpool to victory after coming off the bench to score twice.

Based on that showing alone, Nunez has much more to offer to the Reds. Getting rid of him after just one season would have been such a hasty decision.

Ultimately, with the likes of Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz at his disposal, attack was not a major concern for Klopp during the transfer window. Rather, it was his midfield after losing players such as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
