Talk sport Report: Rangers Goalkeeper made to suffer seven months Ban After final verdict in Leeds Game…

Usually, players in the last year of their contracts naturally try a bit harder to earn a new deal but John Lundstram’s recent Rangers performances suggest that he isn’t bothered about staying.

The 30-year old arrived on a free transfer in the summer of discontent after 55 when Steven Gerrard wasn’t given any funds to strengthen his title winning squad.

A few seasons later and all we have seen is a good few months from John Lundstram and even those were on Rangers run to the Europa League final.

John Lundstram’s Rangers career hits new low point

The former England youth cap has never been a ball playing defensive midfielder or a deep lying playmaker and yet, this is where consecutive managers have played him.

Lundstram isn’t a good enough passer to be a number eight, nor can he beat a man with pace or skill.

As seen by Limassol’s second goal – very little it would appear.

John Lundstram doesn’t have the same protection that Ryan Jack does in terms of getting a new Rangers contract either.

Jack is home grown and is useful for UEFA quotas, even if he doesn’t play.

The other problem is that Lundstram is on £22,000 per week according to Salary Sport and is one of the club’s highest earners.

There is no way that he is justifying that at the moment.

Every first touch is heavy and/or back towards his own goal.

There is no first time passing to break defensive lines and time after time, he takes the easy option of dropping next to the centre-halves to avoid pressure.

All this does is make it harder for the forwards to progress play with no help from the midfield.

John Lundstram might have been the best on earth once upon a time, but he’s not even the best in his own backyard now.
