Under fire Rangers star Cyriel Dessers has responded to boos amongst the Ibrox fans and claims that the best is yet to come after a much-needed goal v Hibs.

The Belgian-born Nigerian international striker, 28, has been in the firing line of supporters following a stuttering start to the season.

With Rangers losing many of their attacking options in the summer, the reported £4.5m spent on Cyriel Dessers was supposed to represent a new era in Govan.

But the nervous and lacklustre forward has struggled to settle so far with the jury still out amongst Rangers fans when it comes to Cyriel Dessers.

Speaking after the 4-0 victory over Hibs, where Cyriel Dessers cooly slotted home the Ibrox side’s final goal, the striker has praised the fans and admitted that he blocks any negative noise out.

“There’s been a double feeling for me about the fans,” said Cyriel Dessers.

“Of course I’ve had some negative things towards my head but overall the people are amazing, they’re so nice to me.

“When I meet them in the city, when I meet them here around the stadium, they’re so kind, so supportive.

Cyriel Dessers impressed the watching Rangers fans as the Philippe Clement era kicked off with a bang against Hibs.

The incoming Rangers manager has previously been open about Dessers’ struggles in Glasgow but it was a massive show of faith to start the forward against Hibs.

Cyriel Dessers looked a more focused and direct option throughout the 90 minutes and – despite fluffing a few chances – eventually got a well deserved goal in the comprehensive victory.

Speaking after the match, the Rangers striker claims the best is yet to come as he praised the reaction of supporters in the 4-0 victory.

Like you saw today, from my feeling, this wasn’t even my really good performance I know I can do a lot better, but to get this support, that means a lot to me,” Dessers said.

“That fills your heart and gives you energy to even go harder and as I say, this is a new start for me and I hope this can be a new start as well with the fans and I hope I can make them happy in the future.”

Cyriel Dessers has made 16 appearances so far for Rangers, with his latest goal v Hibs the striker’s fourth strike for the Ibrox side.
