Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus will be expecting to bounce back against an in-form Lecce after their disastrous defeat to Sassuolo.
The match between the Bianconeri and the Giallorossi kicks off at 19.45 UK time at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
Juventus’ last outing was an incredibly painful 4-2 loss to Sassuolo, a match which saw key mistakes from Wojciech Szczesny and Federico Gatti. It was the first defeat of the new season for Allegri’s side.
Lecce are in flying form and currently sit third in the Serie A table after five games, picking up 11 points from three wins and two draws.
The Old Lady are without Alex Sandro, Mattia De Sciglio and Paul Pogba. Moise Kean is also in doubt due to a slight leg issue.
The Puglian side cannot count on Kastriot Dermaku and Lameck Banda, both of whom are out injured.
When these two teams met last season, Juventus secured a 1-0 win away and a 2-1 win at home.
Probable line-ups for Juventus vs Lecce
Juventus (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Weah, Fagioli, Locatelli, Rabiot, Cambiaso; Milik, Vlahovic.
Lecce (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Baschirotto, Pongracic, Gallo; Rafia, Ramadani, Kaba; Almqvist, Krstovic, Strefezza.
There are a lot of questions coming out of Juventus’ 4-2 loss to Sassuolo this past weekend. But, in the simplest terms, the one that applies to the first midweek fixture of the 2023-24 season isn’t all that hard to figure out or take hours of hard-hitting analysis.
You’re always going to ask yourself that question after Juventus puts forth a rough go of things. But it’s especially true when Juve lose in the kind of fashion that they did this past weekend, with mistakes galore and self-inflicted wounds all over the place. It was bad — really, really bad — over the weekend. And it just so happens that instead of six or seven days before Juventus steps onto the field again, the first midweek fixture of the 2023-24 season arrives immediately after they did what they did against Sassuolo.
By simple name recognition, facing a club like Lecce would probably be the perfect tonic for a wounded Juventus that was probably riding a little too high after their win over Lazio a little over a week ago now.
But then you go ahead and look at the Serie A standings after the first five games of the season…
