While talks about Jimmy Butler’s contract and future have dominated the Miami Heat headlines in recent weeks, one cannot forget that there is a clear need for the team to improve this summer if they want to get back to contending for the NBA Championship anytime soon.
It remains to be seen whether the Heat end up handing Butler the max contract extension that he is believed to be seeking. They certainly do not appear to be keen and it is understandable why, considering his age and injury record
The franchise might have some more difficult decisions to make this summer as well. Could we possibly have seen the last of Tyler Herro in a Heat uniform?
Herro has spent five seasons with the Heat since being drafted in 2019 and to be honest, his trajectory has somewhat plateaued in recent times.
He has been averaging in the region of 20 PPG, 5 RPG and 4 APG for the previous three seasons with his shooting output remaining pretty similar as well.
Dejounte Murray could be a potential solution for the Heat this summer but to bring him to South Beach, they might need to part ways with Herro.
According to Heavy, one NBA executive said this week: “They can do a straight trade of Tyler (Herro) for Murray, if they are willing to send the picks.
“Is Atlanta going to want three picks? If the Heat can do Herro with two picks, that is probably the sweet spot. Murray gives you a guy who can play two ways, who can run your offense and lay off the ball if he needs to.
Murray’s future in Atlanta is in doubt, just like that of Trae Young, who has also been linked with the Heat in recent times.
There is a feeling that the Hawks could be looking to start with a clean slate after missing the playoffs last season and then landing the No. 1 draft pick. It was just last year that they had agreed to a four-year, $120 million extension with Murray
