The Dallas Cowboys’QB Dak Prescott  have finally reached an agreement to possible renew his contract.

There have been a lot of NFL trade rumors because the Dallas Cowboys have three quarterbacks who are probably appealing to teams throughout the league. As Dak Prescott moves closer to a potential extension, attention shifts to Trey Lance and Cooper Rush’s futures.

However, Mike Fisher of Sports Illustrated thinks there’s a good chance the Cowboys will keep all three quarterbacks this offseason. Remember that before the season began, Dallas traded a fourth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers to acquire Lance.

Dallas “is going to have to make a choice about whether to keep Lance around or not,” according to what has been written. In a piece titled “Rumor: Cowboys to Trade Dak Prescott Backup QB Cooper Rush or Trey Lance; 10 Truths Inside The Star,” Fisher made this observation on January 5, 2024. In fact, Lance is very much on the ‘roster bubble’ for the Cowboys in 2024, per the contract website Spotrac.

That is untrue. He could be useful in a trade, even if he ends up being the third-string quarterback (assuming he doesn’t surpass Rush in the summer). as long as Dallas receives something in return for him beyond a fourth-round pick.

Cowboys Rumor: Trey will not be selected by Dallas Lance’s 2025 Fifth-Year Option
Although Lance’s $5.3 million cap hit for 2024 seems reasonable, it is undoubtedly a high amount for a third-string quarterback. Rush’s contract is more reasonable, coming in at $2.8 million for the upcoming campaign. It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys entertain offers for either quarterback. On October 4, ESPN’s Todd Archer revealed that the Cowboys would not pick up Lance’s 2025 fifth-year option.

In an article titled “What Cowboys saw in Trey Lance and what’s next for the former 49ers QB,” Archer said, “The Cowboys will not exercise the fifth-year option on Lance for 2025, since that would cost more than $25 million. However, they could work out a short-term extension for him if they like what they see in practice this season and in next year’s preseason.”
