The former third baseman has been officially announced to rejoined with the New York Mets.

The Mets’ offseason has been filled with tales, but the most surprising one probably started in December when Ronny Mauricio, a top prospect and likely starting third baseman, tore his ACL playing in the Dominican Winter League.

The blue and orange have been associated with almost every free-agent option available since Mauricio’s injury.

Except for Joey Wendle, who signed before the Mauricio injury and is more of a utility player than a starting third baseman, none of the players that were linked to the team ultimately put pen to paper.

Since most of the intriguing players had already signed deals with other teams, it seemed as though Brett Baty and Mark Vientos would be the only contenders for the starting position until the San Francisco Giants placed J.D. Davis, a former Met, on the waiver wire.

Davis’ qualifications
After being chosen in the third round of the 2014 MLB Draft, Davis started his career with the Houston Astros.

Davis enjoyed a cup of coffee after making his way through the Astros minor league system.
