LeBron James is unlikely to win a fifth NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers this year, but according to one reporter, the team might give him the chance to look for a title elsewhere.
David Pingalore, a sports anchor for KTLA, reported on Thursday that Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka is “close to a suitor” and is looking into trade options involving James. Prior to the trade deadline of February 8, trading LeBron is reportedly Los Angeles’ top priority.
Pingalore is not a well-known NBA insider and only has slightly over 11,000 followers, but he has a history of being trustworthy when it comes to important Los Angeles basketball news. In 2019, he was among the first to report that Kawhi Leonard would be joining the Clippers. In addition, he was well-informed about LeBron’s 2018 decision to join the Lakers.
The Lakers have played at a.500 clip the entire season, and LeBron has expressed candidly that his team doesn’t appear to be a title contender. James’ future in Los Angeles was recently questioned by a more prominent NBA reporter.
It would make sense to look into possible trades for James if Pelinka and the Lakers’ brass believe they cannot compete with him again. James is 39 years old. What is the question?
