The Los Angeles Lakers officially sign a veteran point guard to a two-way contract.

Your Los Angeles Lakers’ depth in the backcourt has just increased by one more player.

The Lakers are reportedly inking free agent point guard Skylar Mays to a two-way contract, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Five days have passed since Mays’ last game for the Portland Trail Blazers, a four-year veteran. Rather than pay him the remaining portion of his contract, the Blazers decided to cut him.

He has already faced the Lakers twice as a member of the Blazers, and he had two of his best games of the season in those contests. He shot 48% from the field and averaged 15 points, 10 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and one steal.

He finished the season with an average of 4.9 points, 44.3% shooting, 1.3 rebounds, and two assists. Mays was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 50th overall pick in the second round of the draft, and he played his first two seasons there. He then went back and forth between the NBA G League and the NBA this season.

In March 2023, he first agreed to a 10-day contract with the Blazers. Early in October, Mays signed a two-way contract; he later signed a standard contract with Portland; on January 6, the team waived him.

We are eager to watch what he can do with the Purple and Gold now that he is in Los Angeles. Alongside him will be center Colin Castleton and small forward Dylan Windler, who also recently signed with the Lakers last week.
