There’s only one trade deadline left in 2024—February 8th, to be exact—and it goes without saying that your Los Angeles Lakers will be big players. It’s evident what kind of player the Lakers are looking for: a backup big man and someone who can provide them with an extra offensive punch.
There are alternatives available, but who would be prepared to provide the Lakers with what they require? The Los Angeles Times’ Dan Woike claims that the Washington Wizards, particularly center Daniel Gafford and point guard Tyus Jones, could assist the Lakers in that area.
With the Washington Wizards, a team more interested in tanking than in winning, this pair finds themselves in a basketball version of hell.
All things considered, Jones, a point guard from Duke, is having a successful season. With 51.3% shooting, 41.3% from three, 5.8 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game, he is scoring 12.5 points per game on average.
In terms of the Lakers, Gafford is a reliable big man who meets their needs as a backup big man. In 26 minutes, he blocks 2.1 shots, pulls down 7.6 rebounds, and shoots 68.5%, which is the second-best percentage in the league.
These two fit the Lakers’ needs, though it’s unclear how much they will cost. In less than three weeks, we will know.
