NEW ON TIMEZ: The Mets have officially accepted a potential reunion with JD Davis after a turbulent Giants exit, according to MLB rumors.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the New York Mets are allegedly among the teams expressing interest in signing free agent third baseman JD Davis. This might mean that a familiar face could return to Queens.

“The Mets are among the teams that have made contact with their longtime friend JD Davis; the Jays seem like a good fit, but he would also benefit his former Queens team.”

After being cut by the San Francisco Giants, Davis became available as a free agent. After Davis prevailed in arbitration and agreed to a $6.9 million one-year contract with the National League West division ball club, San Francisco dismissed him. However, Davis is now free to seek employment elsewhere in the majors. In addition, he is receiving $1.1 million in compensation for his dismissal from the Giants, as wages agreed upon by an arbitration panel are not assured.

The infielder played in the major leagues with San Francisco for the previous two seasons, where he hit.251/.333/.431 with 26 home runs and 83 RBIs.

Prior to joining the Giants, Davis was transferred by New York to the Mets in 2019 and played there until 2022.

At third base, the Mets could use some assistance. They were the lowest in the league in 2023 both in terms of wOBA (264) and third-base wRC+ (67) at the position.
