The Philadelphia Phillies are surely looking to make some changes this offseason.
Philadelphia has been right on the cusp of World Series contention for years but hasn’t been able to get over the hump. The Phillies won 95 games in 2024 but were bounced from the playoffs early by the New York Mets.
Now, things are going to be even more difficult with the Mets landing Juan Soto, the Dodgers being the Dodgers, and the Atlanta Braves getting healthier among other things.
Philadelphia needs to continue to add to keep up. There has been speculation that the team would be open to moving All-Star infielder Alec Bohm. There also have been rumblings that St. Louis Cardinals star Nolan Arenado would consider waiving his no-trade clause for Philadelphia.
Because of this, MLB Network put together a hypothetical proposal that would send Arenado to Philadelphia.
“Phillies acquire: (third baseman) Nolan Arenado, cash considerations (and) Cardinals acquire: (third baseman) Alec Bohm, Phillies No. 11 prospect (outfielder) Gabriel Rincones Jr.”
This seems like a great idea for both sides. In this scenario, the Phillies would be getting a bonafide star to help win now and cash to pay down the deal. He has three years left on his $260 million pact and is owed $74 million. Bohm is an All-Star-caliber player who is much cheaper than Arenado and would help the Cardinals build for the future. Plus, they would get an outfield prospect to sweeten the deal.
