The Mets were able to get something in return for Tyler Jay.
After designating the left-hander for assignment on Wednesday, the Mets traded him to the Brewers on Sunday for right-handed pitcher TJ Shook.
Shook, a 26-year-old minor leaguer, had a 4.90 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 64 ⅓ innings this season for Double-A Biloxi, making 11 starts and six relief appearances.
In a trade between the Mets and the Brewers, Tyler Jay, a left-handed pitcher, was dealt to Milwaukee in exchange for TJ Shook, another pitcher. Tyler Jay, a former first-round draft pick, brings solid potential to the Brewers’ bullpen with his ability to handle left-handed hitters effectively. On the other hand, TJ Shook, known for his versatility and strong pitch repertoire, joins the Mets organization, adding depth to their pitching staff. This trade appears to benefit both teams, addressing specific needs in their respective bullpens while providing opportunities for these young pitchers to contribute at the major league level in the near future.
Shook has never pitched above Double-A.
Jay, 30, made his MLB debut with the Mets this season, giving up five runs (four earned) in 4 ⅔ innings across three appearances.
In 23 appearances for Triple-A Syracuse this season, Jay has a 2.40 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 41 ⅓ innings.
Jay previously pitched in the Twins and Reds organizations.
