The Miami Heat’s owner reportedly terminated the contracts of three players due to disagreements about opinion.
Haslem’s jersey will be raised into the rafters at Kaseya Center in Miami, Fla. during halftime of the Heat’s Jan. 19 contest against the Atlanta Hawks.
Before retiring at the end of the 2022–2023 season, Haslem played for the Heat for his entire 20-year career. He played for the franchise on three championship teams: the one that won in 2006 and the two that won in 2012 and 2013. With 5,791 rebounds, Haslem is also the Heat’s all-time leading rebounder.
Haslem was the ideal representation of the “Heat Culture” that Heat president Pat Riley has worked so hard over the years to instill in the players of Miami.
Riley explained the significance of retiring Haslem’s jersey as “a great legacy.” “A moment of gratitude that has been earned after more than 20 years of being the greatest championship player and, above all, leader. I’m excited to see his jersey hanging in the rafters when he has his moment.
