The Minnesota Vikings’ standout wide receiver Justin Jefferson’s contract has become a subject of much discussion, with rumors circulating that the team is hesitant about the guaranteed money in his new agreement.
There have been rumors circulating recently suggesting that the Vikings would be “hesitant” to fully guarantee Jefferson’s funds.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk emphasized the team’s position and disclosed that the Vikings may need to make some exceptions in order to keep Jefferson on staff.
The team’s “rule,” according to Florio, “that full guarantees will apply only to the year in which the contract is signed,” must be given exceptions, he said. “They have granted quarterback Kirk Cousins an exception in this regard. They HAVE to make it work if they want to keep Jefferson and keep him content.
“With Justin Jefferson, they are playing with fire on several fronts, and his patience will finally run out. Florio remarked, “I can tell with confidence that J.J. is extraordinarily patient, but his patience will have its limitations.
“It’s not the dollars, it’s the structure,” the NFL insider continued. Beyond the first year of a contract, they don’t want to fully guarantee money for any position other than quarterback.
