The Minnesota Vikings’ head coach, Kevin O’Connell, is reported to be fired in less than 48 hours after a bungled overtime fourth down call.
Yesterday, the Minnesota Vikings suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. When the Vikings were getting close to making a field goal in overtime, the crucial play was a fourth and inches call. Kevin O’Connell, the head coach, attempted a quarterback sneak but was unsuccessful. After gaining possession of the ball, the Bengals drove for the winning field goal. Dave Portnoy, the man behind Barstool, demanded that the Vikings clean house after the game.
Portnoy wrote on X, “If you’re the Vikings for this, you have to fire everybody.” On third and fourth down, O’Connell called two quarterback sneaks in a row. Neither of them was converted by the team. Upon the game, O’Connell gave an explanation of his thinking. O’Connell stated, “I’m really looking at about 4-5 inches there.” “Really don’t want to have to go back and extend the ball before passing it off. I know our guys can perform at that precise moment. The Vikings have suffered a severe loss. Their chance to make the playoffs is now jeopardized, and winning the division becomes nearly impossible.
