The new coach of Kaizer Chiefs rejected a lucrative new contract from a key star.

Nasreddine Nabi is back on the radar and is now favourite to become the new Kaizer Chiefs coach. He rejected Amakhosi’s first offer.

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly closing in on announcing their new coach for next season.

Three coaches are in contention for the Akahosi hot seat but one of them turned down the club’s offer last year. Former Yanga SC coach Nasreddine Nabi looked certain to join Chiefs before the start of the season but the deal fell off last minute. Kaizer Chiefs instead, appointed Molefi Ntseki as their new coach. He lasted four months before he was sacked.

The 59-year-old Tunisian coach revealed what happened between himself and Chiefs

“I wanted [Chiefs] to give me a chance of coming with at least two members of my technical team who will help me,” Nabi said as quoted by Sports Arena.

However, they told me they have individuals with running contracts, and firing them will be expensive.

“It became a challenge for me to agree, I realized they cannot help me and I decided to leave them alone.”

According to Soccer Laduma, Nabi is now a contender to become the new Kaizer Chiefs coach. Initially, Pitso Mosimane was the club’s biggest interest but in the past week, Alexandre Santos has emerged as a favourite.
