Good News: The New York Mets’ owner shocks fans by pushing of re-signing All-Star Pete Alonso.

The owner of the New York Mets delivered a clear statement on Friday on his feelings towards three-time All-famous Pete Alonso, which may have angered supporters who believe the team has not even come close to re-signing the famous slugger.

The future of first baseman Pete Alonso has been a major plot point for New York during the winter. The rising star is in his last year of employment and will be available for free agency in the winter of next year. Normally, it would seem obvious that the team should re-sign the three-time All-Star, but negotiations for an extension have not advanced.

The club may have looked around to see if it could get a better deal for the 29-year-old by trading him, rather than moving closer to signing him to a new, long-term contract. Mets supporters are irritated because, despite Alonso’s obvious shortcomings, it’s rare to find a player who can easily smash over 40 home runs in a season.

Steve Cohen, the owner of the Mets, has not said much about Alonso, but he made it clear during an interview on the podcast “The Meet at the Apple” that he truly wants to keep his first baseman wearing orange and blue after this season.

“We intend to retain him,” Cohen declared categorically. “Today and perhaps in the future, he will play a significant role on our team. I’m not tone deaf, and we both know how passionate his supporters are about him. I now get why Pete is so beloved by his supporters. I hope he hits fifty-five home runs and gives me a lot of trouble in free agency. It seems like a fantastic result to me.
