Just a few days ago, the New York Mets designated Yohan Ramirez for assignment, and someone has since claimed him in trade.
Three days after designating him for assignment, the New York Mets traded reliever Yohan Ramírez to the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday. The deal was announced by both teams.
The Orioles will pay the Mets cash as part of the agreement.
Since Hoskins and Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil got into a fight and Hoskins went on to hit a home run off the Mets the next game, Ramirez is most remembered by Mets fans for being the pitcher that pitched behind the slugger from the Milwaukee Brewers on opening weekend.
Following the home run, Ramirez threw behind Hoskins in an at-bat, which resulted in his dismissal and a three-game punishment. The Mets gave him a standing ovation as he left the mound at Citi Field, making him a short-lived folk hero.
Carlos Mendoza, his former manager, was also suspended for one game.
Ramirez might have been caught in the need for new arms when the Mets traveled to Atlanta for a four-game series because they were suffering with pitching ailments. With an 11.81 ERA in three games, he was 0-1 in them. In 5.1 innings, he struck out six batters while surrendering nine hits, seven earned runs, and four walks.
Cole Susler replaced him as staff member.
Although he is listed on the Orioles 40-man roster, it is unclear if he will be assigned to a minor-league team or activated and added to the 26-man roster.
