It has been almost five years since the New Orleans Pelicans traded Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers, and it has been close to four years since they sent Jrue Holiday to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Pelicans have already used some of the draft picks they got back. But there is still draft capital coming in.
Over the next four years, the Pelicans control the rights to six first-round picks (a number that could increase to seven if the Bucks’ up
coming season goes off the rails).
Here is a rundown of the draft picks the Pelicans control through 2027.
2024
The 21st pick
Analysis: If the Pelicans decide to use this pick, it wouldn’t be a shock to see them select a center. Jonas Valanciunas is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and it seems unlikely that he will return to New Orleans. Baylor big man Yves Missi, who started playing organized basketball three years ago, has impressive physical tools. Kel’el Ware, who spent one season at Oregon and one at Indiana, is a pogo stick center with range that extends beyond the 3-point arc. New Orleans could also take a swing at a high upside perimeter player like USC’s Isaiah Collier or Pittsburgh’s Carlton Carrington.
