PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles announced their first big free-agent acquisition of the NFL offseason, agreeing to terms on a three-year contract with former New York Jets pass rusher Bryce Huff, league insider Adam Schefter announced on social media Monday afternoon.
Huff, 25, is a former undrafted free agent who signed with the Jets following the 2020 NFL Draft. He quickly became a steady contributor to the New York pass rush, but had a breakout season in 2023 when he notched 10 sacks, 29 tackles and 21 QB hits off the edge.
The three-year, $51.1 million contract the Eagles and Huff agreed to is the richest contract ever awarded to an undrafted free agent who does not play quarterback, according to Schefter.
Huff’s signing means the Eagles will likely part ways with one or both of their current starting edge rushers. Prior to the offseason, the news came out that Haason Reddick was given permission to seek a trade with other teams, and reports over the weekend indicated Philadelphia was shopping Reddick’s counterpart on the other side, defensive end Josh Sweat.
Reddick, who will turn 30 in September, is a former first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2017. He signed with Philadelphia as a free agent in 2022 and amassed 27 sacks and six forced fumbles in two seasons with the Eagles.
While Reddick denied the report he was looking to leave his hometown team — he’s a Philly native who played college football at Temple — he is entering the final year of a three-year contract he has clearly outperformed and reportedly is looking for a big payday.
Sweat, 26, is a former fourth round pick of the Eagles in 2018. He has 35 sacks (11 during the 2022 season) in his six-year career and has made one Pro Bowl as an Eagle. He is also entering the final year of his contract.
The Eagles also re-signed Brandon Graham to a one-year contract this offseason, and have Nolan Smith, Tarron Jackson, and Patrick Johnson under contract as pass rushers.
Earlier on Monday, the Eagles announced they reached a four-year contract extension with offensive lineman Landon Dickerson.
