The president and CEO of the Lakers declared Zach LaVine as a potential super star to replace LeBron James.

Zach Lavine, a forward with the Chicago Bulls, expressed interest in joining the Los Angeles Lakers in a potential trade that would have taken him to Southern California. But, the Lakers’ and Lavine’s evolving situations could make the possible partnership unfeasible.

According to The Athletic’s Jovan Buha on his Buha’s Block podcast, Lavine expressed some interest in moving to Los Angeles between November 2023 and January 2024, but the Lakers lost interest when Lavine sustained repeated lower leg injuries in the previous season. Lavine had season-ending foot surgery in February and was expected to miss four to six months.

“I had heard that he was considering moving to Los Angeles and joining the Laker team,” Buha stated. Naturally, things didn’t work out that way; after suffering another injury and needing foot surgery, the Lakers turned their focus more towards Dejounte Murray and their pursuit of him.

The Lakers are now trying to acquire a potential third star in Dejounte Murray, Trae Young, or Donovan Mitchell to help the team transition into a post-LeBron James build after getting go of their previous coaching staff. Zach Lavine of the Bulls, though, may no longer be taken into consideration by Los Angeles because he is not on the same level as the three stars stated above.
