Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers who had dreams of seeing Zach LaVine, an All-Star for the Chicago Bulls, wear purple and gold should now wake up because an agreement of that kind is not going to happen, according to the most recent report from ESPN.
The Lakers’ main goal was to sign a point guard.
As the February 8 trade deadline approaches, NBA insider Dave McMenamin claims that the Lakers are not considering LaVine. This is a result of the front office of the team currently placing a high value on adding a reliable point guard.
“Laker supporters, don’t count on the UCLA Bruin returning to Los Angeles to support this team.”
It makes more sense for the Lakers to be searching for a point guard because they have long needed a dependable court general to direct play and set up shots for their star players, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Even though D’Angelo Russell, the team’s current starter, averages 15.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game, the Lakers’ even 21-21 record is good for 10th place in the Western Conference, which is surprising considering James and Davis are the team’s top players.
The Bulls are still looking for a good trading partner. It’s no secret that Chicago wants to get rid of LaVine and his big contract in order to try and rebuild a team that hasn’t performed well over the past 1.5 seasons. With a strong average of 20.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game, the former All-Star is performing admirably.
But LaVine’s $215 million contract, which expires in three years, might be keeping teams from calling to ask about him. LaVine signed the deal in 2022.
