The six-time NBA All-Star officially signs with and trades with the the Los Angeles Lakers

Even though they lack the cap space to sign free-agent guard DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls, the Los Angeles Lakers might still end up being the guard’s destination in a sign-and-trade deal.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report mentioned that if D’Angelo Russell leaves the Lakers this offseason, DeRozan might sign and trade.

If D’Angelo Russell declines his $18.7 million player option (to move L.A. below the first round), and Los Angeles sends back some combination of Rui Hachimura ($17 million), Austin Reaves ($12.9 million), Gabe Vincent ($11.0 million), and Jarred Vanderbilt ($10.7 million) in exchange, then going home to Los Angeles in a sign-and-trade with the Lakers could work, according to a June 9 post by Swartz.
The amount that DeRozan receives in a new contract will determine the moving parts.

According to Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic, the six-time NBA All-Star and the Bulls were unable to come to an agreement on a new contract because of disagreements over the contract’s length and value.

DeRozan, 35, however, desires long-term safety.

DeRozan, who played standout basketball for USC—a school located very close to the Staples Center—and Compton High School, did not rule out going back home.
