Sean Payton think highly of quarterback J.J. McCarthy?
That is the claim made by the Minnesota Vikings’ veteran radio voice, who claims to be quoting a “reliable individual.”
“There’s a small amount of momentum that’s starting to build up here in the community that Sean Payton adores J.J. McCarthy,” stated Paul Allen, the Minnesota Vikings radio play-by-play announcer who runs a daily program on KFAN in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market.
Naturally, this matters because the Vikings, with the 11th overall pick in the NFL Draft, are one pick ahead of the Broncos. In the event that they decide to allow Kirk Cousins to sign free agency, the Vikings will heavily compete for a quarterback.
Allen, who referred to Payton as “the anti-Vike,” gave his audience an explanation on Thursday of why he thought the information he had heard about Payton and his alleged opinions of J.J. McCarthy were pertinent.
“He’s a strong-armed quarterback from a pro-style offense.” I won’t say that he makes him think of Drew Brees. McCarthy is taller, less accurate, and moves more than Drew. Allen added, “Drew Brees is football immortality.”
Nevertheless, the anti-Vike wants the next Drew.
However, the rumor mill keeps going strong.
When considering (pick No.) 11 or J.J. McCarthy at 11, Allen advised keeping this in mind. “You have a desperate anti-Vike behind you who will essentially beg, borrow, and steal to get what he wants from this draft from a quarterback standpoint,” Allen said.
“However, I was told over the weekend by a fairly trustworthy source that Payton is really infatuated with J.J. McCarthy.”
