TheMaple Leafs officially Trade another Struggling Forward from ‘Lifeless’ Line

Max Domi’s struggles this season have become a growing concern for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and with the team looking for forward reinforcements, there is a chance they flip Domi for another player.

According to Daily Faceoff’s insider Frank Seravalli, discussing the topic during Thursday’s “Daily Faceoff Live” show, the Leafs face an “interesting” situation.

“What’s gonna be really interesting moving forward is Max Domi,” Seravalli said. “That third line has been no good. It’s been one of the most lifeless in the league, and that’s with Bobby McMann on it right now, having a great season.

Now, in his first year following his long-term extension with Toronto, Domi has struggled to replicate his 2023-24 form, scoring just three goals and 16 assists in 45 games.

“Domi, a guy who had played on a series of one-year deals, finally gets the term in the place that he wants to be with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and now he’s not pulling his weight,” Seravalli said. “That’s tough.”

In case the Leafs cannot trade for a bonafide top-tier player, or at the very least a middle-six center, NHL insider Darren Dreger listed potential mid-tier trade targets for Toronto on Jan. 8, some of them potentially available in a one-for-one trade involving Domi.

Dreger named Scott Laughton, Brock Nelson, Ryan Strome, Ryan O’Reilly, Mikael Granlund, Yanni Gourde and Nick Bjugstad.
