Tottenham have adhered to Ange Postecoglou’s wishes by bolstering their defensive ranks with the capture of Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.
The centre-back was heavily linked with Liverpool earlier this summer, with Reds sporting director Jorg Schmadtke tipped to use his Bundesliga connections to complete a deal. However, Tottenham then moved into pole position for Van De Ven.
Last week, Spurs agreed a €50million (£43m) deal with Wolfsburg for Van De Ven. The Dutchman then travelled to London over the weekend to complete his medical and sign the paperwork as Spurs’ latest signing.
Spurs have now formally announced Van De Ven’s arrival at the club. He has penned a six-year contract with Postecoglou’s side and will wear the number 37 shirt this season.
Van De Ven becomes Spurs’ fourth new signing of the summer, following the arrivals of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Manor Solomon. The North London outfit have also made Dejan Kulusevski’s loan move permanent for £25m.
Postecoglou will be delighted that Spurs have landed the Netherlands U21 international as he was not happy with his existing centre-back options.
Van De Ven will battle the likes of Eric Dier and Cristian Romero for a starting spot under .Postecoglou Spurs are in talks over another move for Clement Lenglet, while they have also been backed to snare Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen.
It would not be a surprise if Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga are allowed to leave Spurs this summer as they have all fallen down the pecking order.

Spurs bringing in Van De Ven sees Liverpool miss out on his signing. Jurgen Klopp is searching for a left-sided centre-half who can eventually succeed from Virgil van Dijk and become Ibrahima Konate’s long-term partner.
Van De Ven fit the bill perfectly, which is why Klopp was interested. But the manager will now have to watch on as Van De Ven represents Spurs instead.
