The Reds now have less than 10 days to do business and Jurgen Klopp is still supposedly eager to add another midfielder to his ranks after losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita also left earlier in the summer, while Arthur returned to Juventus.
This has left Liverpool a little short in midfield, and despite the signing of Waturu Endo from Stuttgart, Klopp is eyeing up at least one more. Ryan Gravenberch and Kalvin Phillips are said to be amongst those Liverpool are chasing at the moment – after Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia joined Chelsea.
Gravenberch boost
Ryan Gravenberch is facing an uncertain future at Bayern Munich, according to The Athletic.
The Bundesliga champions are weighing up whether to sell the 21-year-old after struggling for game time during his debut campaign in Germany. He has started just three matches since making the move from Ajax last summer.
Liverpool have a longstanding interest in Gravenberch and the Dutchman is said to be open to a move away from the Allianz Arena. Although a final decision has not yet been made, it is thought the club are leaning to keep him in the hope Thomas Tuchel will integrate Gravenberch into the squad after paying £15m for his services.
But if Bayern do manage to sell the midfielder, Tuchel will want to use the money on a specialist holding midfielder, despite signing Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig on a free transfer.
Liverpool’s home shirt for the 2023/2024 campaign pays homage to Bill Shankly and the legendary Reds manager’s final season in charge at Anfield. The Nike shirt features a bright red design with a bold white contrast on the colour and cuffs.
Liverpool urged to sign Phillips
Simon Jordan believes Liverpool should sign another midfielder as the Reds continue to be linked with a move for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is still in the market for midfield reinforcements after Fabinho and Jordan Henderson both quit Anfield to join the Saudi Pro League exodus. Klopp is said to be a huge fan of ex-Leeds star Phillips, who has impressed against the Reds in the past.
After being asked about the proposed transfer, Jordan told talkSPORT: “I am not quite as big an admirer as others might be. But, notwithstanding that, I think Liverpool have a need (for midfielder).
“It will be interesting to see if there is any resistance from Man City about doing business with Liverpool. If there is any pushback on the idea that you are enhancing a rival by giving them something that they are missing.”
Pitaluga transfer hint
Liverpool goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga has hinted that he could leave he club on loan once again this season.
Pitaluga spent the first half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Macclesfield, where he helped them win the Northern Premier League Division One West title. The promotion saw the Silkmen move to within three steps of the Football League, and despite missing a large chunk due to a finger injury, Pitaluga is targeting a possible “step up”.
He told Liverpool’s official website: “Going out on loan to a Football League team is one possibility. We will see how it goes, but it is massive at my age to be playing games. It would be a step up from last season, but I am more than ready for that.
