According to Mark Douglas at iNews, Newcastle United have identified Chelsea’s Lewis Hall as our top left-back target.
This backs up our NUFCBlog exclusive released in mid July, where we were the first outlet to reveal our interest in the 18-year-old talent, with Eddie Howe a huge fan of his versatility, robustness and quality.
A month on, Douglas reports that he ‘ticks all the boxes’ in our search for a new left-back and has now been prioritised by the club’s recruitment team, who are open to securing him on a permanent deal or initial loan which includes an obligation to buy.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea will sanction a sale or if any deal would work within Newcastle’s FFP limits, so it’s thought Blues full-back Marc Cucurella and Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney are back-up options who could be available on loan-to-buy deals should we fail to land Hall.
Hall is a boyhood Toon fan whose dad, brother and grandfather all support Newcastle. The i also report that he’s ‘open’ to a move to St James’ Park, but would ask for a ‘substantial wage bump’ should we strike a deal with Chelsea.
