Transfer Update: Nottingham Forest receive Brennan Johnson transfer hint amid €70m bid from Brentford boss..

The latest Nottingham Forest news as Forest have turned down bids from Brentford for the winger this summer

Brentford may have moved on from pursuing a summer transfer for Nottingham Forest man Brennan Johnson, with the club making an offer for another winger.

The Bees have been the club most heavily linked with an interest in Johnson for some time, with the Reds turning down a number of bids from the club both in this and in previous transfer windows. Brentford are said to have made an offer of £30million to Forest for the player this summer, which was turned down.

It now seems that they have instead turned their attention to Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez. Thomas Frank’s side are said to have made an initial bid of around €30 million (£25.9m) earlier this month, but according to the Athletic , have now made an improved offer of €70 million (£54.2m) to the Italian club.

The 25-year-old scored 14 goals and provided five assists in 42 appearances for Fiorentina last season, and was the subject of interest from Leicester City in the January transfer window. Brentford’s pursuit of the Argentina international suggests that they are looking at different options to Johnson.

While Brentford may have moved on, Forest still have to fight off interest from a number of other clubs before the end of the window should they wish to keep Johnson beyond the summer. Chelsea are said to be showing interest, but are also exploring other options, while Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham have both been linked with an interest.

The 22-year-old has started both of Forest’s Premier League games so far this season, despite speculation over his future. Last season saw him score 10 goals and provide three assists in 44 appearances in all competitions.
