TRANSFER UPDATE: Sevilla interested in signing 28-year-old Barcelona defender on loan…

With the transfer window coming to a close soon, FC Barcelona have already identified the constants away from the variable operations. Certain targets are now considered unfeasible while other operations are seen as something the club must conclude at all costs before the end of the window.

Chief among them are two operations involving an arrival as well as a particular departure. The arrival concerns the objective to bring 29-year-old Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo to Barcelona and integrate him within the team so that Xavi’s side can continue to compete at the highest level with the acquisition of an elite talent.

On the other hand, the operation involving a departure concerns 28-year-old French central defender Clement Lenglet, whom Barcelona insist on parting ways with but have been rather unsuccessful in their attempts for various different reasons.

In the most recent of developments according to MARCA however, Sevilla would be a club interested in taking away the player and the Spanish side has already started negotiating with Barcelona for a loan deal involving the Frenchman.

Lenglet originally arrived from Sevilla to Barcelona in 2018 for a fee of around €35 million, and may not look too unfavorably upon a return to his former club, unlike the scenario for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, whose approach was rejected by the defender.

However, Sevilla are clear that they would be unable to take on the Frenchman’s entire salary given that it is now a significant one due to the accumulation of deferred payments. As a result, Barcelona would have to take responsibility of paying a part of the salary whilst he is on loan at Sevilla should the operation materialize.

Lenglet’s departure would be a good outcome for Barcelona, despite their hopes having been to permanently part ways with him rather than send him out on loan, as the club may be able to clear up more of their wage bill and consequently their salary margin to more easily be able to register other stars that are still waiting for the club to do so.
