SKY NEWS: Trevor Bauer will officially be replaceing Kodai Senga at the beginning of the season.

An insider for the team disclosed that disgraced star Trevor Bauer could be a candidate to start as the New York Mets’ starting pitcher for the 2024 season, given that the team will be without top pitcher Kodai Senga for at least a few months.

Prior to the MLB trade deadline in 2023, the Mets sent away their aces, Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer. It was anticipated going into the offseason that the organization would attempt to bring in a pitcher who had recently participated in All-Star games to cover the void. The most noteworthy addition they made, though, was the frequently injured veteran Luis Severino of the Yankees.

While the 2024 starting rotation is undoubtedly affordable, it is also very unimpressive. When it was announced on Thursday that 2023 All-Star Kodai Senga might miss several months due to a posterior capsule strain in his shoulder, what was already a middling squad suffered a serious blow.

Some Mets supporters began to speculate whether the injury would force the team to take a risk by adding an impact player in free agency.

One player from each National League team to keep an eye on at MLB spring training this month.

Following the announcement, SNY MLB insider Andy Martino discussed the possibility that the New York Mets will chase Jordan Montgomery or Blake Snell in free agency. That seems very unlikely to even be taken into consideration, though.

New York Mets have no interest in signing Trevor Bauer

“Every dollar spent on Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, or any other player would result in a 110 percent luxury tax for the team, driving their total cost into the $70-to-$80 million range for this season,” Martino said.

Or, to put it another way, even after the team was informed of Senga’s injury, the Mets continued to feel that way. They have not yet been inclined to think about devoting several years to other players due to an ailment they hope will only last a few months.”
