BBC NEWS: Tylor Megill officially signed another superb outing in bid for Mets rotation spot

PORT ST. LUCIE: Asking Tylor Megill if he thought he had a good chance of filling the void in the Mets rotation following his outing on Monday caused him to smile broadly.

“Dude, I have no control over it,” Megill remarked. “I just need to keep going after my passion and pitching.”

He continued his excellent spring training tonight at Clover Park, where he gave up one earned run in four innings against the Marlins in an exhibition. Without walking a hitter, the right-hander gave up three hits and struck out two.

Megill, who pitched to 61 pitches, has four starts this spring and a 1.50 ERA. The runs that were scored against him came from a home run by Tim Anderson in the second inning.

With Kodai Senga expected to start the season on the injured list while recovering from a right shoulder issue, the Mets have a vacancy in their rotation. Senga is not anticipated to return before May.

Carlos Mendoza, the manager, lauded Megill’s approach before the game, starting with his winter throwing routine.

Mendoza stated, “[Megill] reported ready to go.” “He is already up to 60-65 pitches because he was one of the few individuals who was throwing live batting practice when he showed up. Furthermore, the way he is tossing the ball. He is presenting a strong case for himself and throwing the ball proficiently. This is beneficial.

We have been saying this throughout spring training: not only are we healthy, but people are throwing the ball effectively, so toward the end of camp we should have to make some difficult choices. If that’s the case thus far, let’s hope they stick to their routine and remain well.

Jeff McNeil ran and played defense for five innings.
