Cops arrived at the property in response to a 911 call where they found Minaya “unconscious and unresponsive” in the bathroom, authorities confirmed on Monday.
Despite attempts to resuscitate Minaya, she was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital at 4:26 pm.
Mystery surrounds what happened as suicide has been ruled out, according to the New York Post who spoke with someone close to the family.
The “circumstances involved do not appear suspicious,” the Bergen County prosecutor’s office said in a statement, per the Washington Post.
Minaya’s husband was not at home at the time of her death.
The couple share two adult sons, Teddy and Justin.
The Yankees, for whom Omar is a senior advisor, released a statement following her death and held a minute silence before their most recent game.
“To those closest to her, she was a loving and compassionate mother and wife, and a huge supporter of her family and loved ones,” the Yankees said.
In this unthinkable time, we offer Omar, his sons Justin and Teddy, and their family and friends our profound condolences.
“His family is an extension of the baseball family, and this is a loss that is deeply felt among all of us.
Justin’s parents met in 1989 at a unisex hair salon in Manhattan, a 2007 Sports Illustrated profile revealed.
Following a whirlwind romance, the pair got engaged a year later during a vacation in Italy.
Rachel was a residential and commercial interior designer at RMS Interiors, according to her Instagram account.
Last year, her husband became senior advisor to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman.
