All of this implies that the Vikings will need to use their first-round pick from the next year in order to advance to second, which is a risky move. Should Minnesota fail to win the Super Bowl, the selection will be valued at a minimum of 600 points. It will be worth more than 1,000 points, though, if it places in the top 16, which is advantageous for the Commanders.
In actuality, though, the Vikings have already revealed their intentions and aren’t in a strong position to negotiate for the second pick, which would allow them to select the QB prospect of their choosing, even after doing all this arithmetic. Washington may therefore request Minnesota’s third or fourth place in 2024 or 2025 as a precaution.
