Vikings officially agree to negotiate with Texans to acquire the No. 23 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Vikings appear to be planning to pursue their next quarterback with vigor.

The Vikings made a big move on Friday, acquiring the Houston Texans’ No. 23 overall pick in a deal that provides them greater leverage going into the NFL Draft, which takes place next month. The Vikings now have two first-round picks (having already selected with the 11th pick), which, if they can find a willing partner, might help them advance in the draft.

According to the complete conditions of the transaction, the Texans will select picks No. 42 and No. 188 in the 2024 NFL Draft, while the Vikings will select picks No. 23 and 232.

The first impression is that general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is engaged in work on a much larger project. It’s no secret that the Vikings, who lost starting quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons this week, are searching for his replacement.

The Vikings are notable for never having drafted a quarterback in the Top 10. As of right now, Daunte Culpepper, who was selected with the No. 11 pick in 1999, is the highest QB selection in franchise history.

The Vikings may choose a quality quarterback like Drake Maye from UNC or Jayden Daniels from LSU if they can work out a trade with the Washington Commanders, who have the No. 2 pick, or the New England Patriots, who have the No. 3 pick. The Commanders and the Patriots probably have an interest in both players, which is the main problem with it.

The Vikings might move up to ensure they don’t lose out on J.J. McCarthy from Michigan if they are not successful in landing Maye and Daniels. It is also said that they are quite interested in McCarthy.
