The New York Mets were not happy with the performance of catcher Omar Narv
That’s why they made the decision to designate him for assignment in the past few hours.
They needed to find someone to replace him on the roster, though.
They took care of that by agreeing to a trade with the New York Yankees, who will be sending Luis Torrens to Queens and will receive cash considerations.
“The Mets are designating Omar Narváez for assignment, reports @martinonyc. They will acquire Luis Torrens from the Yankees to replace Narváez at the catcher position,” SNY Mets tweeted.
He is 28 years old and has a career .227/.289/.354 line in the Show, in 271 games.
He has also homered 19 times.
The last time he played an MLB game was in 2023.
He had a good spring training with the Yankees and has been with their Triple-A affiliate until the moment the trade was announced.
He was having a good season with the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, hitting .279/.339/.468 with five home runs in 30 games.
His 105 wRC+ indicates he was playing better than the league-average player at his level.
If anything, he will add experience and some competition for Mets catcher Tomas Nido.
The Yankees get some cash and give Torrens, who has a lot of history with the organization, a chance to be on a major league roster and compete for at-bats and playing time.
