Zach LaVine and the Los Angeles Lakers finally reached an agreement on a $120 million, three-year contract.

During the 2023 offseason, the Miami Heat lost a few players in their rotation, but things haven’t worked out as well as they had hoped. Gabe Vincent, who signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, was one of them.

Vincent and the Lakers agreed to a $33 million three-year contract. Vincent has only appeared in five games this season due to injuries. Even worse, he’s shooting 11.8% from three and 37.5% from the field, only managing an average of 5.4 points. Because of this, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype characterized Vincent as a negative asset, drawing comparisons between him and another former Heat player.

Due to his injuries and inability to demonstrate whether or not he would fit in with the Lakers, Gabe Vincent is currently seen as a negative asset within the league. Except for Max Strus and the way he’s played for Cleveland, there’s also always the perception that Miami Heat role players aren’t as good elsewhere, Scotto wrote in a story published on January 24.

Gabe Vincent was a 2023 Heat playoff hero before joining the Lakers. Vincent shot 37.8% from three point range and averaged 12.7 points. Perhaps if the Heat got him back, he would discover who he really was.

Targeting Ayo Dosunmu as a Heat Trade Float
The Heat’s acquisition of Terry Rozier might have been their biggest move of the year. They could still sharpen the edges a little bit, though. In a story published on January 25, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report suggested Ayo Dosunmu for the Heat.

Dosunmu might be a better defensive player than Josh Richardson, making up for some of the defensive shortcomings of a backcourt consisting of Tyler Herro and Rozier.

Dosunmu is shooting 36.9% from three-point range and 48.2% from the field, averaging 8.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. The Chicago Bulls haven’t disclosed their intention to trade players like Dosunmu, though.

According to NBA.com, the Heat have a defensive rating of 112.9, which places them ninth out of all NBA teams. Given their desire for the title, that makes sense. More significantly—and this is a bigger problem—they added Terry Rozier to help with their offense.

Despite his lackluster play, Gabe Vincent remains a possibility, but the Heat lack the expendable salaries to acquire him.

Heat Was Warned Against Andre Drummond
Buckley listed the alternatives available to the Heat and provided an explanation for why they shouldn’t pursue Andre Drummond, another Bull.
